Cheapest managed Kubernetes providers

Ranked by the all-in cost of a minimal cluster — the estimated monthly control-plane fee plus one cheapest worker node — Hetzner (self-managed) is among the cheapest at roughly $4/month. Free-control-plane providers like Civo, Vultr, Scaleway, OVHcloud, DigitalOcean and Oracle (basic) dominate the low end because you pay only for nodes. AWS EKS and Google GKE sit higher because of the $0.10/cluster/hour control-plane fee.

Frequently asked questions

What is the cheapest managed Kubernetes provider?

For a minimal single-node cluster, Hetzner (self-managed) is among the cheapest at about $4/month (free control plane + one $4/mo node). Several free-control-plane providers (Civo, Vultr, Scaleway, OVHcloud, DigitalOcean, Oracle basic) cluster near the bottom of the cost range. snapshot captured June 2026.

How is this 'cheapest' ranking calculated?

We add each provider's estimated monthly control-plane fee (hourly × 730, or $0 if free) to its cheapest representative worker node. It's a like-for-like floor for a tiny cluster — your real cost depends on node size, count, load balancers and egress. See the methodology page.

Is the cheapest provider the best choice?

Not necessarily. The lowest sticker price may come with fewer regions, fewer managed services, or no SLA on the free tier. For production, weigh reliability, integrations and support against price. Hyperscalers cost more but offer the deepest ecosystems.

Can I run Kubernetes for free?

Almost. Oracle's Always Free tier and free basic clusters can run a small OKE cluster at $0, and GKE's monthly credit covers one cluster's control-plane fee. You'll still typically pay for nodes once you exceed free allowances. Self-managing on cheap servers (e.g. Hetzner from ~€3.79/mo) is another low-cost route.
